Urban Connection have been involved in the design and construction management of the Hawkes Bay RoNs project. We have combined smart camera technology with AI-driven analytics through our partnership with Transoft, using Veraltix to provide real-time understanding of traffic movements, safety conflicts, queue formation, travel times, and route choice behaviour. This has enabled proactive monitoring of transport affects in real time allowing project teams to respond dynamically to emerging risks rather than relying on traditional methods.
Key findings highlight how real-time insights supported more informed decision-making during critical phases of construction, including identifying unintended traffic patterns, managing congestion impacts on adjacent routes, and maintaining network resilience. The deployment also provided a platform to support the management of critical infrastructure, support mitigate key risks and performance measures under changing conditions.
The presentation will share practical lessons from implementation, including system setup, data interpretation, and integration into project decision-making processes. It will also reflect on the challenges of balancing data richness with actionable insight in a live project environment.
